Hi! My name is Maggie Dezendorf and I am the 6th grade teacher here at Two Rock Elementary School. This will be my second year teaching at Two Rock, and my fourth year teaching (time flies!). I spent two years teaching in Windsor, but always had a goal of coming back to my hometown of Petaluma. Although I went to UC Santa Barbara for my B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Education, and to San Francisco State University for a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, I am a true Petaluman at heart :). I attended Grant Elementary School, Petaluma Junior High School, and Petaluma High School and am so excited to be back teaching in the town that shaped me!
I am a strong believer in innovative and interactive teaching models and am incredibly excited to be teaching 6th grade! My teaching experience has provided me with the confidence and preparation needed to provide students with an inclusive, individualized educational environment. The concept of student directed teaching based on individual needs is reflective of my overall teaching philosophy as well as, in my belief, the foundation of the Common Core State Standards.
I constantly strive to not only foster my students’ academic development, but also work to create a classroom environment which enables the students to grow as individuals and independent thinkers. As a part of this overall growth, I create and adapt lesson plans which focus on supporting students’ creativity and access to real life experiences. I began implementing STEM challenges as a way to encourage students to think outside the box and have incorporated flexible seating into my classroom environment.
I am eager to collaborate with teachers and families about how we can provide the most beneficial and supportive educational foundation for our students. Please feel free to contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to working with you!
